Chelsea Spoonamore has been named the Top Leaf Employee of the Month for September! Chelsea is a behavioral health supervising clinician at Greenleaf Family Center, who also practices with her licensed therapy dog, Ducky. (Read more about Ducky). She was nominated and chosen as Greenleaf's value "Connection."

Chelsea is always making connections with and among staff, clients and the community. An excellent clinician, she works with individuals and groups and her clinical interventions are authentic and genuine in her care. Flexible with her schedule, she helps cover gaps in the daily to-do list, when needed.

Out in the community, Chelsea finds time to reach out to other agencies for collaboration and to partner for training opportunities for our staff. And she regularly participates in community events in Akron, making the drive from an hour away.

Ducky

An example of this is the work Chelsea did for Ducky to become a therapy dog. She put in the work, and Greenleaf and the community are benefiting from it. In her own way, Ducky has become a sort of therapy for Chelsea's clients, young and old, helping comfort them, and even teaching them how to be calm, and regulate their emotions.

Ducky has also made some connections of her own at Greenleaf. Employees stop by to say hello for some "Ducky time" and belly rubs when Ducky is in the building. And as one colleague wrote, "Chelsea engages our questions as we pet Ducky, providing an overall stress-relieving, resetting and morale-boosting day. This falls under not only connection, but compassion and respect for staff."

Chelsea continues to find ways to connect with the people around her, whether that is through her clinical work, supporting coworkers, building community relationships, or simply bringing people together through Ducky.
